Who said the Oscars are only for adults?
In 1968, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) created the G rating classification to rate the content of movies and television programs.
It ensures that viewers will be able to watch these programs without any inappropriate content. Many parents rely on the G rating to make sure that their children are watching age-appropriate content.
There’s no doubt that the movies nominated for Oscars these days often tend to deal with mature content. However, that’s not to say that there haven’t been any great, family-friendly movies that have won an Oscar.
In fact, some of the most memorable Oscar-nominated and Oscar-winning films have been ones that the whole family can enjoy.

1969: Oliver!
Based on the classic Charles Dickens novel, Oliver! tells the story of a young orphan who is taken in by a group of thieves and pickpockets.
Although it is a movie from 1968, it was an Oscar nominee in the following year. Oliver! is the first G-rated movie ever to have won an Oscar for Best Picture.
That is because the movie received its rating before the nomination. The MPAA only started rating movies after 1968.
Other G-rated movies that won an Oscar for best picture were only rated years after their victory. It ultimately went on to win other Oscars, including Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.
In addition to its critical acclaim, Oliver! was also a commercial success, becoming one of the highest-grossing films of 1968.
Today, it remains a timeless classic that continues to entertain audiences of all ages.

The story of a wooden boy who comes to life. Pinocchio was a critical and commercial success, becoming one of the most popular movies of its time.
In addition to its popularity, the movie was also a critical success. Winning Walt Disney his first Academy Award for Best Original Song for “When You Wish Upon a Star.”
Today, Pinocchio remains an iconic G-rated movie that won an Oscar, and many consider it one of the greatest animated films ever made.
Miracle on 34th Street, 1947
The film, which tells the story of a department store Santa who may or may not be the real deal, has become a timeless Christmas tradition for families around the world. This G-rated movie has won more than one Oscar!
