This year’s summer premieres are loaded with movies for everyone to enjoy! See below what they are.
Summer is merely one week away, and you can almost hear the countdown as most people can’t wait to return to normalcy after two long years. The summer 2022 movie season is well on its way with a series of big studio releases fighting for that number one spot amongst moviegoers. Although we can’t predict how many of the movies lined up for the summer will become blockbusters, we can positively guess which ones movie lover’s are most excited about.
Ther’s a major Marvel project, a Toy Story prequel and a couple of horror movies just to name a few. This year’s summer movie season will provide audiences with a little bit of everything they’ve missed in the last two years. To make things better, the faithful companions to any moviegoer are back in session. That means that people will have the opportunity to kick back and splurge on popcorn and candy as they watch their new favorite movies.
So, without further ado, here are some of the most anticipated movies for the summer.
Lightyear, directed by Angus MacLane
Undoubtedly one of the most anticipated movies this summer. Pixar’s latest animated film tells us the story of Buzz Lightyear – the beloved toy from 1995’s Toy Story. Now, the audience will get to see the “live-action” universe in which the Buzz figure was based on. The movie will also lean into the idea that it was an 80’s movie that Andy was obsessed with.
Chris Evans voices the iconic animation character. Evans even manages to portray a less campy version than his predecessors while maintaining Buzz Lightyear’s self-regard. However, encounters with his nemesis, Emperor Zurg, and a talking robot cat while stranded on an alien planet will soon change that.

The Black Phone, directed by Scott Derrickson
The movie is an adaptation of Joe Hill’s novella by the same name. Hill, who’s the son of Stephen King, has successfully followed his father’s footsteps and managed to create his own legacy of unsettling horror stories. The director, Scott Derrickson, is the man behind one of the scariest movies of the last ten years, and he pulls no punches in his latest work.
Set in the 70’s, the movie tells the story of a serial killer known as The Grabber who has been abducting children. While captive, his most recent victim discovers he can connect with the ghosts of the serial killer’s previous abductions through a black phone. With their help, he must find a way to escape and bring the criminal to justice.
Thor: Love and Thunder, directed by Taika Waititi
After Thor: Ragnarok’s immense success, Waititi returns to the director’s chair for Thor: Love and Thunder. The movie follows the events after Avengers: Endgame and is based on Jason Aaron’s renowned comic book run. Natalie Portman is back as Jane Foster and, as the surprisingly 80’s-theme trailer revealed, The Mighty Thor. Christian Bale makes his debut in the Marvel universe as Gorr the God Butcher, the movie’s primary villain.
Also returning are some of Thor: Ragnarok’s beloved characters like Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster. Marvel enthusiasts will be glad to know that The Guardians of the Galaxy will also be making an appearance.
