These podcasts are perfect for when you need some entertainment.
So far, it looks like the podcast mania from the past couple of years is still going strong in 2022. According to Statista – a consumer data company – the industry will experience a high influx of new podcasts and podcast listeners, forecasting tens of millions more by next year. But with so many new podcasts going after that ever-growing demand, it’s important to know which options are really worthy of your time.
Fans have lost quite a few long time favorites this year, but there’s also a lot of great newcomers to the game. True crime is still the genre that dominates every streaming platform available to man, but there are also a series of other topics that are just as good. Here are two new podcasts that will have you hooked and for hours on end.
Ghost Church by Jamie Loftus
Jamie Loftus is a well known figure in the world of podcasts. Her previously renowned one-off-shows include My Year in Mensa, Lolita Podcast and Aack Cast. Ghost Church – her most recent endeavor – is one of the wildest, weirdest and welcoming deep dives so far.
In Ghost Church, Jamie travels around the country to narrate stories about a religion called spiritualism. In her travels, she speaks with modern-day believers of this century-old belief system born of a seance that was once put on by a pair of young brothers who made everyone believe they could talk to the dead.
Ghost Church shows us exactly why Jamie Loftus’ crafts such unique podcasts, and just how much it has matured since her last show. What the listener gets now is not just great storytelling, but also amazing productions and an interesting journalistic approach. One of the most appealing aspects of Ghost Church is that Loftus allows more room for the audience to draw their own conclusions.
Unlike her previous shows, the new podcast is also not about making fun or infiltrating a group of people. It’s rather about listening to what they have to say and what they really believe in. Even though it is a very niche topic, this podcast expands it into a host of broader themes that will tackle a series of emotions, from existentialism to science. It is definitely one of the podcasts you should be listening to.

Wild Things: Siegfried & Roy
Undoubtedly one of the most interesting podcasts of the last five years. In 2003, the entire world was taken by shock with the story of a German magician Roy (born Uwe Ludwig Horn) being attacked by one of his tigers in the middle of a live Las Vegas performance. Roy was part of the superstar magician duo Siegfried & Roy.
However, almost two decades after the incident, investigative journalist Steven Leckart decided to write a piece about all the unanswered questions surrounding the incident. By doing so, he uncovered a lot of new information that the audience had no idea about what really happened that day.
This is one of the most thrilling podcasts streaming right now. An exposé that goes deep into trying to discover the truth behind all the magic tricks. It takes the audience through amazingly shocking discoveries through brand new interviews with witnesses, collaborators and investigators that were part of that awful night.
