Absolutely everyone loves to go on holiday. Whether they’re going to a far-off destination or catching a quick flight to visit relatives, a change of surroundings for a few days can feel amazing. The cherry on top is booking cheap flights for their little getaway.

Everyone knows that the cost of traveling is a bit over the top. Airfare, especially, can be the most expensive part of any trip depending on the destination. During the Holiday Season, trying to save money can seem like an impossible task.

The good news is that yes, you can find cheap flights to pretty much anywhere. The trick is to have patience, do your research ahead of time and follow a couple of important tips. You’ll quickly learn that you can book cheap flights without breaking the bank.

Instead of stressing over the planning and booking, take a closer look at some tips we’ve prepared for you to find and book cheap flights with ease.

How to spot cheap flights

The first thing you should know is that in order to find cheap flights, you have to be flexible with your travel. Sticking to a strict schedule will not help you when it comes to pricing.

When most people look for tickets, they first select their destination and the dates before checking the prices. In order to find the cheapest flights, you have to let go of that part of the process.

Check with apps and websites like Google Flights, SkyScanner and WayAway to get an idea of what is the average price for your travel location. Then, you can see what dates offer the cheapest flights.

Booking a flight in advance is also a key factor in order to secure the current pricing. Waiting until the last minute might cost you more, so avoid doing so. The best time to book a flight is between two to three months in advance. For Holiday Season, which is peak travel time, try to book your flights five months in advance.

Contrary to popular belief, there’s no exact day to book a flight. However, some days are better than others. According to travel experts, Fridays and Mondays are usually more expensive to fly because that’s when most business travelers book their flights.

Saturdays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are usually cheaper to book a flight. Nevertheless, there is no specific day in which you’ll find cheap flights. They can pop up at any given time.

Tips to find and book cheap flights

When people want to book a getaway, they usually resort to famous carriers like American Airlines or United. However, a good tip to find cheap flights is to look for them on budget airlines. Frontier Airlines, Southwest – there are plenty of options outside of brand names, and they are usually much cheaper.

Peak travel times in the U.S. and in Europe usually last from mid-June through mid-August. Christmas and New Year’s Eve are also a busy time in airports. If you can, book your flights several months in advance. Or better yet, try to schedule your trip around those times to save money.

Finally, a direct flight can save you some time in the air, but prices are significantly higher. You can find dozens of cheap flights with short layovers that will make it worth it in the long run. Especially if you’re not traveling alone.
