He’s the psycho killer from Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, and he’s been terrifying audiences for over 50 years.

What makes Norman so scary is his combination of charm and insanity.

Norman Bates is the kind of villain that will keep you up at night, and that’s why he’s one of the greatest ever.

8. Nurse Ratched

Many people consider Nurse Ratched one of the greatest villains of all time.

She is the primary antagonist in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, a novel by Ken Kesey.

The novel tells the story of a group of patients in a psychiatric hospital oppressed by Nurse Ratched and her tyrannical rule.

The patients eventually rebel against her, leading to a tragic conclusion.

Although she is a fictional character, Nurse Ratched embodies the real evils that can be found in institutions and those who hold power.

7. Voldemort

One of the greatest villains of all time is undoubtedly Voldemort. His story is about tragedy, power, and, ultimately, evil.

Born as Tom Riddle, he was orphaned at a young age and raised in an abusive home.

He discovered his magical abilities while still in childhood and began experimenting with dark magic.

Over time, he became increasingly obsessed with power, eventually murdering his family to gain control of the wizarding world.

He then took on the name Voldemort, which means “flight from death” in Latin.

For years, he terrorized the wizarding community until Harry Potter finally defeated him.

6. Anton Chigurh

He’s a cold, calculating killer who takes whatever he wants without regard for anyone else.

Chigurh is the villain who makes you root for the hero so you can see him get his comeuppance.

And when he finally does, it’s all the more satisfying. Anton Chigurh is wicked, making him one of the greatest villains of all time.

First appearing in L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the Wicked Witch, has since become one of the greatest villains of all time.

4. Hannibal Lecter

A brilliant psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer, he first appeared in Thomas Harris’ 1981 novel Red Dragon.

Lecter starred in two more Harris novels, The Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal, as well as some film adaptations.

While his origins are a mystery, it is clear that Lecter is a deeply troubled individual.

He is a cunning and manipulative sociopath who takes pleasure in causing pain and suffering.

At the same time, he is also an expert in psychology and forensics, making him a dangerous adversary for anyone who crosses his path.

3. Hans Landa

He’s a sadistic, cold-blooded killer who takes great pleasure in torturing and murdering his victims.

His main goal is to annihilate the Jewish people, and he will stop at nothing to achieve his goal.

He’s intelligent, manipulative, and one step ahead of his enemies. In a nutshell, Hans Landa is the epitome of evil.

2. The Joker

The Joker is one of the greatest villains of all time. He’s a master of chaos and mayhem; his trademark laugh is chilling and iconic.

The Joker first appeared in Batman #1 in 1940, and he’s been delighting (and horrifying) readers ever since.

He has no superpower other than brilliance, which makes him all the more dangerous.

The Joker is the perfect foe for Batman because he represents everything that Batman is sworn to fight against.

He’s a reminder that the darkness can bring down even the greatest heroes within us all.

1. Darth Vader

He’s the main antagonist of the Star Wars saga, and his story is both tragic and compelling.

Vader was originally a Jedi Knight named Anakin Skywalker, but he fell to the dark side and became a Sith Lord.
