Why the new Spotify HiFi tier is a game changer for audiophiles
We can all agree that Spotify is the best thing to happen to music since the invention of the album, Let’s learn everything about Spotify HiFi. Have you heard about it?
We no longer have to track down our favorite songs on Napster or Limewire (remember those?) or shell out a fortune for a CD collection.
With a Spotify account, we can access virtually every recorded song at our fingertips.
But what if you want even better sound quality? Well, good news, because Spotify will launch its new HiFi tier! Is it worth it?
Spotify has announced its new HiFi tier, where you can stream your music in lossless audio quality! What does that mean for users? Is it worth the extra cost?
Let’s take a closer look and find out. Keep reading for more information on this exciting development from Spotify!
What is Spotify HiFi?
Spotify HiFi is the new lossless audio streaming service from Spotify. Announced in February 2021, it promises to bring “CD-quality” sound to your music listening experience.
But what exactly is Spotify HiFi, and how does it differ from the standard Spotify service?
Spotify HiFi is a subscription-based service that gives you access to lossless audio streaming.
This means you’ll be able to hear your music in all its glory without any compression or degradation of quality.
In addition, Spotify HiFi also offers support for Dolby Atmos, meaning you’ll be able to enjoy 3D audio on compatible devices.
Spotify HiFi gives you access to a vast library of music in high fidelity, meaning you can hear all the details and nuances of your favorite songs.
Whether you’re streaming at home or on the go, you’ll be able to enjoy music the way it is meant to.
With Spotify HiFi, you can connect your devices wirelessly to speaker systems for an even better listening experience.

What does lossless audio quality mean?
In simple terms, lossless audio means that the file you’re listening to is an exact digital copy of the original recording.
This means there’s no loss of quality when the file is compressed, as opposed to lossy formats like MP3 or AAC.
So what difference does it make? Well, if you have a good set of speakers or headphones, you should hear a noticeable difference in clarity and detail with lossless audio.
If you’re a true audiophile, you can tell the difference between 16-bit/44.1kHz and 24-bit/192kHz files.
Of course, all of this comes at a cost. Lossless audio files are much larger than their lossy counterparts, so you’ll need more storage space for your music collection.
And streaming services like Spotify will need to invest in more bandwidth to offer HiFi plans.
But for those who care about audio quality, it’s worth it.
After all, there’s nothing worse than listening to your favorite song and realizing it sounds like it was recorded in a tin can.
When will it come out?
So, everything’s been pretty hush-hush on the Spotify HiFi front lately. We all remember when (wistful cue music) Spotify first announced that they were working on a lossless CD-quality streaming service.
And then… crickets. It looked like the project had been on the back burner indefinitely. But it seems like the rumors are true, and Spotify HiFi is finally on its way– albeit slowly.
According to a recent Reddit post, Spotify is testing out a new premium plan called “Spotify Platinum” that will offer HiFi streaming as one of its features.
Other features include “Studio Sound,” “Headphone Tuner,” “Audio Insights,” “Library Pro,” “Playlist Pro,” and “limited-ad” podcasts.
The catch? It needs to be determined how much this premium plan will cost or when it will be available to the general public.
So, we’ll have to keep our fingers crossed and hope that Spotify HiFi arrives sooner rather than later.
How much will it cost?
Spotify HiFi is rumored to be launching soon, and there’s been a lot of speculation about how much it will cost.
According to the “Spotify Platinum” rumor, the price will start at $19.99 a month, or double the $9.99/month Spotify Individual plan.
But while that would certainly be a lot of money for some people, it’s worth considering what you’d get for your money.
The price of the current Individual Spotify plan gives you standard-definition, 320kbps audio.
HiFi is said to offer lossless CD-quality audio at 1,411kbps. That means you’ll be able to hear all of the instruments and details in your favorite songs that you’ve been missing out on with lower-quality streaming services.
So if you’re a true audiophile, it might be worth paying a little extra for Spotify HiFi.
Of course, we’ll have to wait and see how much it costs when it launches – but either way, it’s sure to be an interesting addition to the Spotify lineup.
Will it offer spatial audio?
Spotify has been mum on the spatial audio, but the rumor mill still needs to stop churning.
There’s been speculation that Spotify HiFi, the company’s upcoming high-fidelity streaming service, will offer spatial audio tracks in formats like Dolby Atmos and Sony 360 Reality Audio.
However, there needs to be an official word from Spotify on whether or not this is true.
Competitors like Amazon Music, Apple Music, and Tidal all offer spatial audio tracks, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Spotify followed suit.
However, we’ll have to wait and see until we hear something from the horse’s mouth.
