Next year boasts a series of new superhero movies, spine-tingling horror, and plenty of interesting action. Plus, even a few throwbacks to famous and loved old franchises.

Check below to see what are the most anticipated movies of 2023 and get the popcorn ready.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania

With a February 17 release, the movie had a one-year delay. Paul Rudd & Co. are back for another installment of this fantastic franchise.

The new movie promises exciting new names in the cast, such as Bill Murray and Jonathan Majors playing the movie’s supervillain.

Enthusiasts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe would agree that this is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated movies of 2023.

Creed III

Set for a March 3 release, Creed III marks Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut. The third installment of the Creed franchise, which is a Rocky spin-off, is surely one of the most anticipated movies of 2023.

In it, Jordan plays the son of Rocky’s Apollo Creed. We don’t know how the story will play out quite yet.

However, Jonathan Majors also features in this film playing Jordan’s character opponent.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

Undoubtedly the most popular role-playing game for generations, Dungeons & Dragons gets a reboot with an all-star cast.

Premiering also on March 3, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are responsible for the direction. Chris Pine plays the main character.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods

Zachary Levi returns as the titular role in this new installment, along with his teenage form and step-siblings – who all have turned superheroes as well.

With new villains, played by Lucy Liu and Helen Mirren, threatening to end the world, they must unite to defeat them.

The movie is set for a March 17 release, and it’s one of the most anticipated movies of 2023 by DC fans after the first installment’s success.

John Wick: Chapter 4

Releasing on March 24, Keanu Reeves’ fourth installment of his blockbuster franchise is finally hitting the theaters in 2023.

The movie suffered a 2-year delay because of the pandemic. Now, it will be the last one of the series.

While we don’t know much about the story yet, director Chad Stahelski has gone on record to warn fans that there is a high possibility that Chapter Four will not end on a happy note for its titular character.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie

The controversy surrounding this movie alone makes it one of the most anticipated movies of 2023.

The adaptation is being produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, who is responsible for creating Mario in the first place. The controversy lies in Chris Pratt voicing the Italian plumber, which didn’t sit right with fans.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is coming out on April 7, and apart from Pratt, has an all-star cast voicing other beloved characters such as Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Jack Black as Bowser, and Charlie Day as Mario’s brother, Luigi.

Evil Dead Rise

The fifth installment of the Evil Dead franchise will be an HBO Max fall release in 2023. However, it’s now heading to movie theaters in 2023.

For now, it remains unclear whether the story will connect to the remake (released in 2013), the original movies, or if it’ll be a story of its own.

Very little is known so far about the plot, but the story will focus on two sisters who have their happy reunion interrupted after discovering a book that can summon demons.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Writer and director James Gunn return to the Guardians franchise after an irreverent stint in the DC universe with The Suicide Squad.

The original squad returns to the third installment of the movie, with the addition of Will Poulter playing Adam Warlock, as it was teased at the end of Volume 2.

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been waiting for the movie for a few years, making it one of the most anticipated movies of 2023. The release date is set for May 5.

The Little Mermaid

As Disney continues with its live-action remakes, the chosen one for 2023 is The Little Mermaid.

With Halle Bailey playing Ariel and a series of new songs co-written by Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda, the movie also has a star-studded cast in supporting roles.

Melissa McCarthy will play the villain Ursula, while Javier Barden will play King Triton. And Awkwafina will bring Scuttle to life. The release date for the movie is May 24.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a hit amongst critics and audiences when it was released back in 2018.

So, naturally, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is one of the most anticipated movies released in 2023. The movie was supposed to come out this year but had to be pushed to next year.

Shameik Moore returns as Miles Morales, along with Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy and Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara.

Rumor has it that Jake Johnson will also reprise his role as Peter B. Parker, and Issa Rae is voicing Jessica Drew. The new installment is opening on June 2.
