Tax season 2023 simplified: Stay on top of your taxes

The tax season of 2023 is especially important, as the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) expects to receive more than 168 million individual tax returns.

The tax returns in this filing season are projected to benefit from the Inflation Reduction Act. A measure that was passed in August and provides additional staffing and resources.

As a result, tax filing and processing should run more smoothly for all submitting their tax information this year.

Knowing when taxes are due for federal and state tax requirements. As well as when refunds will become available, is essential in order to accurately plan budgeting advice accordingly. It’s important to stay on top of these dates so your tax filing can go by without a hitch!

When is the deadline for filing taxes?

tax season 2023 has officially begun, with the deadline to file for most Americans being Tuesday, April 18. This is because April 15, which usually serves as the tax filing deadline, falls on a Saturday this year.

Furthermore, April 17 is recognized as Emancipation Day in Washington, DC. And residents of Alabama, California, and Georgia are given extra time due to severe storms in those areas.

While 41 states levy income tax, and most of these adhere to the April 18 deadline, there are some exceptions. Such as Iowa and Virginia, which have extended their tax deadlines to May 1, while Louisiana has pushed theirs back to May 15.

However, nine other states, including Alaska, Florida, Nevada, and Texas, have no state income tax.

The final advice is that everyone should check with their respective state revenue department concerning any tax-filing-related updates or changes before submitting their taxes.

When is the deadline if I file for an extension?

Tax season 2023 has officially arrived, and the deadline to file your tax return is quickly approaching.

If you’re not ready, there’s no need to worry. Make sure you request an extension by October 16th of this year to have more time to complete your tax return without incurring any late penalties.

Keep in mind that an extension only provides more time to finish your tax paperwork. It won’t put back the payment deadline on anything you owe.

Should I file my taxes early?

With tax season in full swing for 2023, tax filers need to consider whether or not filing tax returns earlier is beneficial.

One big advantage of filing early is that it often leads to quicker tax returns from the IRS. Especially if you’re owed a refund.

It’s best to determine how your paperwork is and collect the necessary documents first and foremost before deciding when to file.

This ensures a smooth, accurate tax return with fewer delays and potential tax penalties, which can sometimes be costly.

If you have everything in order, filing your taxes early could come with certain benefits that may outweigh the drawbacks.

Tax season 2023 is finally upon us, and one of the biggest questions on tax payer’s minds is “When can I expect my tax refund?”.

The Internal Revenue Service offers guidance on when refunds may arrive and tax payers should prepare for potentially long waits.

Depending on the tax payer’s circulation method and whether there are any issues with their return. They can generally expect their refund to arrive within 21 days.

However, due to identity theft tax fraud protection laws, those who claim either an Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit will have to wait until mid-February before they receive their refund.

When is IRS Free File available?

IRS Free File usually opens in January of tax season 2023 each year, providing taxpayers under a certain income threshold with the ability to file their tax returns electronically, free of charge.

Established as a partnership between the IRS and leading tax-software companies. Free File kicks off tax season a bit early by allowing taxpayers to create and submit their returns in advance.

The partner providers hold on to the tax returns until they can be submitted electronically when tax season officially starts.

Tax season can be stressful and confusing, but with the right knowledge at your fingertips. It can also be a breeze.

Now that you have an overview of tax season for 2023, you should feel more confident about when to expect refunds and deadlines for filing taxes.

Stay current on any changes that might occur regarding tax season, so you don’t miss anything from year to year.

With these general tips in mind, you can look forward to a smooth and efficient experience next year during tax season 2023.
